Us: 4-Dimensional People In A 3-Dimensional World ...

This illustration (mentally challenging ... sorry to make you work so hard :) may be helpful in understanding not only our place in this world, but seemingly-contradictory, difficult theological concepts.
Albert Einstein, it is said, discovered a little book during his teen years that so impacted his view of reality that he re-read that little book once every year until he died. That book, Flatland, a mathematical fiction, told of a 3-dimensional creature (a human being) who somehow got transported into a 2-dimensional world (a FLAT one: width and length, but NO HEIGHT. None. Flatter than paper.) No snakes. (They're an inch high.) No Worms (they're 1/4 inch high.) No amoeba (they're one cell high.) Just imaginary creatures like living lines, living triangles, living circles, squares, rectangles, living points.
A Book that Opens a World ...

Well, we're going to use that little book, and it's fascinating underlying thesis, as a springboard to explain God's presence in this room right now, and our ability to literally walk with Him moment-by-moment. Imagine with us, if you will, as we find ourselves transported into Flatland, we find, ...
An Insightful Stroll ...

Every day in Flatland, our newly relocated three-dimensional human would leave his home and take a walk, a stroll. No particular destination, ... just a walk, pleasant and peaceful soul that he was. Well, the Flatlanders SENSED there was something different / unique about him (though they couldn't identify specifically what it was, because the only part of him that made contact with their world was his FOOTPRINTS - discovering anything else about him required the ability to look UP, a skill not present in any Flatlander. (Remember ... no HEIGHT in Flatland. No such thing as "up!") But just because they sensed he was DIFFERENT, they'd always gather outside his home just before he came out for his walk so they could FOLLOW him.
An Unexpected Roadblock ...

Well, one day as he was taking his walk and a crowd of Flatlanders were following closely behind him, all of a sudden they noticed a few yards in front of him (and them) a ... LINE ... running perpendicular to his (and their) path of travel, preventing their continuing on the current path of travel. (Kind of like when a LOG falls across the road we three-dimensional humans might be driving on.)
That Appears to be an Insurmountable Problem ...

Well, for the Flatlanders, that presented a problem with a (limited) number of options: they could either do a U-turn, ... or they could turn left (or right) and follow the line to its end, ... or they could sit still and wait until the line passed. A number of options. (None of those options included, however, being able to burrow under or climb over the line -- no UP or DOWN in Flatland, remember?)
A 3-D Response ...

So, ... as the Flatlanders crossed their flat little arms and kept their eyes on the new 3-dimensional visitor to see what he was going to do, ...
Followed by an "Extradimensional Surprise" ...

all of a sudden he ... DISAPPEARED!
(Pssst ... he stepped OVER the line!) He was GONE from their sight! His FOOTPRINTS disappeared (which was all they could see of him.)
Well that was just IMPOSSIBLE! There's no UP or DOWN in Flatland! How could he have done the impossible???
A Life-Transforming "Aha," or Insight, or Understanding that can Change the Way We Live this Life ...

Well, ... and here's our point:
this man had just performed a three-dimensional act in a two-dimensional world.

He did something that wasn't supposed to be able to be done in their world!
Imagine that. Ever heard of that before?
History Repeats Itself ...

WELL, ... we'd propose that, 1,970 years ago, JESUS did exactly the same thing ... He was performing four-dimensional acts in a three-dimensional world! (Physicists and mathemeticians would say it may have been much more than 4-D ... 10-D? 100-D? ... Who knows.)

Jesus turned water into wine. (Three-dimensional men can't do THAT.) He healed the sick. (THAT'S not a 3-D act.) He multiplied bread and fish. He walked on water. He disappeared from sight instantaneously. He raised the dead. (4-D again.) He was raised from the dead! (Sounds like a Partnership to me ...) He walked through walls in His glorified body. Jesus (speaking from a human, 3-D perspective) was performing FOUR-DIMENSIONAL ACTS in a THREE-DIMENSIONAL WORLD.
Well, we'd propose that the moment you and I were touched by the Holy Spirit at conversion, once we "dropped OUR nets to follow Jesus" at His call, WE BECAME, if you will, 4-DIMENSIONAL beings, of sorts. God "flipped a switch" that made it possible for us, for the first time, to be aware of "extradimensional" stuff. Prior to that moment, we could only see and understand HUMAN things, things of this world. Three-dimensional "stuff."
"Talking to God?" Things like that were impossible (from a 3-D perspective.)
"Hearing His voice?" 3-D folks can't do that.

Question ... how much are you AWARE that you've been made new? Totally new? Like "Different Dimensional" new? Are you aware that you no longer face the constraints that "the natural man" faces? The God of this Universe has touched your heart and mine and TRANSFORMED us, made us "4-D" (or more.) At the moment of conversion it was though a switch had been flipped inside our hearts and a whole new world, a whole new dimension, opened up for us, and we became its citizens of that new world (though still inhabiting this one.)
What would your day be like today if you lived it knowing about the new dimension you now live in? Taking full advantage of the resources available to you? What if you and I lived today with GOD's power, HIS perspective, every moment? It's all accessible to us now, after all ...
We believe His challenge to each of us this day is ...

Live like the Four-Dimensional Men and Women He has turned us into.

Why pretend we're still 3-D like the world around us?
